Or is it St. Barth? Or perhaps St. Barts or St. Bart’s?
There are different ways of naming the island of Saint Barthélemy, but locals like to call it “St. Barth”!
St. Barth is a small French island of the Eastern Caribbean, just under 10 sq./miles in size, located 20 miles southeast of St. Maarten, and 210 miles east of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The island is mostly known for attracting the “Rich & Famous” in need of some winter-break sun escapes, however budget-minded visitors find that the French destination offers many affordable vacationing options also…. with a choice of exclusive hotels and a large selection of rental villas.
So, How to get there?
The airport (code “SBH”) is known for its spectacular approach. Due to its short runway (2120 feet), only propeller airplanes can land in St. Barth (with capacities up to 19 passengers maximum). Pilots need a special training and charter operators must comply with strict safety procedures to obtain landing permits.
The airport is closed at night and airplanes are subject to sunset landing restrictions. During the winter months, sunset can be as early as 5:30 pm (by the end of November).
As commercial jets cannot land on St Barth, flying to the island usually requires one connection when traveling from North America and Europe.
Chartering a private flight to SBH is often the solution to save time, avoiding airport transfer hassles, and reach the island in comfort and style!
